Course Outcomes

History of India from Earliest Times to 300 CE

The students will be able to explain the importance of sources , distinguish between civilization and culture particularly in the context of  Indus valley civilization in the Indian subcontinent. Students are also able to know the key features of the first ever empire Under the Mauryas and the processes of assimilation of people and ruling class from outside the Indian subcontinent into the main stream.

History of India from CE 300 - 1206

The outcomes of the course are that the students are able to identify the historical importance of the accelerated practice of land grants issued by the ruling dynasties

History of India from C 1206-1707

The students will be able to find the important facts about Delhi Sultanate and Mughals and identify the major political, economic, culture (Art and Architecture, bhakti and sufi movement), developments in the History of India during the period between 13^th and the 17^th century.

History of India from C1707-1950

After the successful completion of this course, the students will be able to trace the British colonial expansion and gradually Consolidation of the colonial state power in the 19^th century. They will gain knowledge about the key historiographical debates around the colonial economic policies including land revenue, commercialization of agricultural production, trade policies and deindustrialization. Students will be able to explain the ideological, Institutional, and political formations of the anti-colonial movement and able to discuss the emergence of communal politics in India and the subsequent partition of India.

Modern and Contemporary World 1871-1919

The students will be able to define and explain the modern and contemporary world history of later nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. They will also be able to explain the various aspects of the world history which led the world towards the two dipolar powers and how the world proceeded towards the World War I.

Issues in World History – I (The Twentieth Century)

The students will be able to define world history and explain the evolving polities and also be able to categorise the economies and cultures of the twentieth century. Students able to understand the making of the geopolitical order and North-South distinctions and make them able to discuss and analyze diverse social movements and cultural trends.

Modern and Contemporary World 1919-1992

The students will be able to explain that what efforts the world did to maintain peace after the WWI and why these efforts failed. They will also be able to know the causes and results of WW II. The students will also know about the efforts, made by the various countries of the world to maintain peace in the world. How the various organization came into existence and functions of these organization will also be known to the students. They will know about the social conditions and issues after the Post-Colonial World.

Issues in World History – II (The Twentieth Century)

The students will be able to define world history and discuss and explain the evolving polities, economies and cultures of the twentieth century world and build the knowledge and capacity to obtain, analyze the interconnectedness in world history.

Historical Tourism

After successful completion of course students will have knowledge and skills to enhance his/her ability to understand Tourism and Heritage. Students will be able to know the importance of historical tourism and popular tourist destinations. By revisiting historical places students get to know the art and architecture and know the value of art and architecture of early times. Students will be able to know the aims and objectives of planning and development of Himachal Pradesh.

Understanding Heritage

The main purpose to introduce this course is to give a detailed knowledge of our past and how it is important at present. The students, after the completion of the course will be able to define the various kinds of heritage. They will also be able to differentiate the tangible and intangible heritage. The will also explains challenges of the above-mentioned heritage.

An Introduction to Archeology

After the completion of course the students will be able to know about the archaeological evidences, how will these facts be identified and documented. They will be able to explain how an archaeologist study inscription and coins; methods survey and various techniques of excavation of archaeological sites.

Crafts and Artisans: Living Traditions

The main purpose to introduce this course is to bring across the living traditions of crafts and artisans in India. The students will be able to know about the stone carvings, stone carvers. They will be able to differentiate various style of paintings. They will be able to identify various metal crafts. They will be able to know the various art forms of Northeastern India.

Indian History and Culture

The main idea behind studying this course is to incorporate the combination of history and Indian culture. It reveals how highly culture has affected the phase of Indian history. The students will be able to see the different elements of the culture as integral part of our history.

Museums and Archives

The main purpose of the course is to develop the knowledge about different types of Archives and Museums. They will be able to Understand the traditions of preservation and know about presentation and exhibition of Museum and discuss about the impact of Archives and Museum in the society.

Introduction to Indian Art

After successful completion of course students will be able to identify the diversity of Indian art including sculpture, architecture and paintings. They understand and examine the development in architecture in India with reference to temple, mosques, forts and colonial buildings. Students also able to explain the traditions of painting in India with reference to Mural, Miniature; Mughal and Rajputs.

Understanding Popular Culture

Students are able to define popular culture understanding it historically. Students get the knowledge about Folk Art, Calendar art, photography and different types of performance like Theatre, Music, Folk tales, songs and impact of cinema and television. They are also able to clear the concept of Fairs, Festivals and rituals and disentangling mythological stories. They also able to know the impact of the internet and Audio-Visual media in popular culture.

Women in Indian History

The main purpose of the course is to make aware students about the gender as a concept and patriarchy as a historically constituted system of power. Students will able to explore women’s experiences within specific contexts at specific historical movements and appreciate the contradictions that marked the rise of power and exceptional women like Razia, Nur Jahan and Mirabai.

Social – Religious Reform Movements in India (19^th and 20^th Century)

The idea behind the study of this course is to highlight the socio-religious reforms in the Indian History. After completing the course, the students will be able to explain that what was the role of social-religious reform movements in the Indian society as well as in the freedom struggle of India. They will also be able to know the contribution of several reforms and freedom fighters such as Raja Ram Roy, Jyotiba Phule, Gandhi, Ambedkar etc. in these movements.

Environmental Issues in India

The idea behind study this course is to aware the students about the environmental issues in India. After completing the course, the students will be able to explain the importance of environment in our life as well as several environmental issues which not India but also the entire world is facing. They will also be able to explain that how we can resolve those issues.

History of Himachal Pradesh: 1815 to 1972

Through this course, the students will be able to know the past as well as the present of their State (Himachal Pradesh). They will be able to explain the various phases of history of Himachal Pradesh of this particular period (1815-1972 CE). They will know the journey of formation of the State.
